A major city is defined as:a populated place that has been designated as a provincial or federal capital by Statistics Canada, ora populated place that has been designated as a city by Natural Resources Canada and has a population greater than 100,000, ora populated place that has been designated as urban by Statistics Canada, a city by Natural Resources Canada, and has a population within the range of 10,000 – 99,999 people, ora populated place that has been designated as urban by Statistics Canada and a town by Natural Resources Canada.
