- Abstract
- New Jersey Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NJPDES) surface water discharge pipe GIS point coverage compiled from GPSed locations, NJPDES databases, and permit applications. This coverage contains the surface water discharge points and the receiving waters coordinates for the active as well as terminated pipes.
- Purpose
- Gather together all NJPDES surface water discharge locations into one comprehensive coverage. Update the coverages which have been compiled in the past and to improve the accuracy of the locations to within 20 feet of the actual discharge.

- "Point source" means any discernable, confined, and discrete conveyance, including, but not limited to, any pipe, ditch.channel, tunnel, conduit, well, discrete fissure, container, rolling stock, concentrated feed operation, landfill leachate collection system, vessel, or other floating craft, from which pollutants are or may be discharged. This term does not include irrigated agriculture.

- The Njpdesid is a concatonization of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System number and the pipe or Discharge Number (DSN) plus GPS where the location had been GPSed. Two "examples" are given below to show general permitting entries (NJG) and individual permitting entries (NJ) followed by their pipe number

- Current status of the individual pipe.

- Was this location GPSed? True (1) or False (0)
- COMMENTS
- Pertinent notes relating to the discharge location. Some GPSed locations are NOT at the outfall and are so noted here. (This field consists of comments submitted when the points were GPSed or where the location of the discharge may be inaccurate due to a lack of verifiable data (no map, PO Box number, etc.) raises the probability that the reported location is not coincident with the outfall.)

- The seven-digit National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit number. Below is an "example" of a possible entry for NJPDES7.
- PIPE
- The pipe is the discharge to surface number (DSN) for that outfall. Typically three digits followed by a letter representing the type of discharge. Below is an example of a possible entry for PIPE.

- Facility name (This is the name reported in the NJPDES application for the permitted activity.)
- PSPREG
- The Point Source Permitting Region in which the receiving waters are located.
- RW_SWID
- Receiving waters Subwatershed Identification (Rw_swid) of the point of discharge from the facility or conveyance into the receiving waterbody. The Rw_swid number is the 6-character designation for the 14-digit Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC14) of the basin in which the discharge into the receiving waters occurs. These values are derived through concatenization of the Watershed Management Area number (i.e., 01), a two-character representation of the major watershed (i.e., BA) and the 12th 13th digits of the HUC14 for the basin the discharge to receiving waters occurs. In many cases, this is a best guess as the storm sewer outfalls are not usually GPSed or otherwise indicated in the applications. (01AA01 to 20GA01)

- Discharge Type - For quickly identifying and mapping, the major types of Discharges to Surface Waters are identified.
- LATDMS
- Latitude in degrees minutes and second of the discharge to conveyance or surface water. (unique)
- LONDMS
- Longitude in degrees minutes and second of the discharge to conveyance or surface water. (unique)
- RWLATDMS
- The Latitude of the outfall from conveyance pipe for discharges into storm sewers and other conveyances. Where discharge is directly into the receiving waters, this will be the same values as LATDMS, respectively. (unique)
- RWLONDMS
- The Longitude of the outfall from conveyance pipe for discharges into storm sewers and other conveyances. Where discharge is directly into the receiving waters, this will be the same values as LONDMS, respectively. (unique)
- PTERMDATE
- Pipe Termination Date - Date upon which the discharge pipe is reported to have terminated discharges.
- GPSDATE
- Date on which location was GPSed by NJDEP Enforcement or other staff. (unique)
