The shapefile is converted to SDC (Smart Data Compression) format using either ESRI SDC Data Development Kit Professional 2 (DDKP2) or tools in ArcGIS. The SDC data set is then loaded into ArcSDE to verify and validate the geometry.
After processing, the data set is checked for drawing display and number of records and file sizes compared with source materials.
The positional accuracy is unknown.

AND Global Road Data
Attribute and geospatial data
The following steps were performed by ESRI: Extracted the data set (eur5_sr_r.shp) from AND Global Road Data. Removed all features where values of the LEVEL attribute are greater than 2. Removed ferry features. Renamed and rearranged the attributes. Added the CNTRYNAME attribute and coded it based on values from Europe Countries. Combined all attributes into one temporary attribute and summarized on this attribute to reduce the number of records. Added the LENGTH attribute and calculated its values. Converted the data set to SDC. Created ArcGIS layer file (.lyr), projection file (.prj), and spatial indices.

The following steps were performed by ESRI: Dissolved like features to reduce the data set size and decrease the Identify tool's response time. Recalculated the LENGTH attribute based on an Equidistant Conic projection. Converted the data set to SDC. Created ArcGIS layer file (.lyr), projection file (.prj), and spatial indices.
